At first glance this may seem like a trick question. After all, the purpose of a light is simply to illuminate a room — isn’t it?
In practice, lighting is about far more than function. It shapes atmosphere and contributes to the overall aesthetic of a space.
For this reason, purpose is always our starting point. Will the lamp exist as an objet d’art, designed to catch the eye and cast a gentle glow? Or is the goal to diffuse light throughout a main living space with a ceiling shade?
