Happy Easter Monday, I hope this week's blog finds you well and you've been enjoying the bank holiday weekend.
You may have noticed that over the last few days our social media has been taken over by as we launch our new collection! There's a wee bit of everything in this one - drum lampshades, table lampshades, floor lampshades, hand-sewn lampshades...we've packed a lot into our small collection, which you can view here!
Why a Lampshade Collection?
The idea of creating a lampshade collection came about because I refuse to part with fabric remnants, it's not part of my ethos, or the ethos of 53 Interiors to waste perfectly good things. Let's be honest, fabric is expensive to buy and it's costly to produce so throwing it away really doesn't come easy, so of course I have a pretty neat stash of interesting, opulent fabrics waiting to fulfil their purpose!
The other wonderful thing about lampshade, is that you can make them from literally ANYTHING - drum lampshades are backed with a special flame retardant (FR) backing and non-FR fabrics can be treated with a compliant spray before use. This means I've been able to repurpose dress making fabrics as well as soft furnishing and upholstery fabrics in my creations.
I'm also slightly obsessed with trim, so making lampshades is a great cover for indulging in fringes, pom-poms, beads and braids!
